Kent Prelims
Kent Cup, Prelims Beckenham 18th March.
What a Sunday! On a day when we had every conceivable form of weather thrown at us, we were victorious. We didn't play our best rugby but have succeeded in making the Cup Finalfor the first time (Dave Parr).
We certainly started slowly against Tonbridge Judds 10-5, (the only try against us during the whole day!). Passing to hand was hampered by a freezing gale – not much fun holding a camera either. Against Dover we were a bit better with a few more trys, but should in reality have scored more (cold hand again?) Then Bromley in the quarter finals – time to wake up! We played some good rugby against a much improved side. The semifinal against Folkestone was a tight game especially in the first half which ended 0-0 by which time we were without our usual back row who were all hobbling on the touchline. During the second half we camped in the Folkestone 22 with some excellent tactical kicking from Danny and Michael combined with some crunching tackles by Danny and Cosmo to name a few, prevented Folkestone doing anything constructive. Big Sam, playing at No 8 all day, picked up a loose ball close to the 22 and powered his way over the try line trailing many dishevelled ‘stones’ behind him, Simon at flanker added to the final push! Danny converted. It was worth freezing all day .. a great result helped by not a bad club house, some excellent bread pudding and it was not far to drive home.... we couldn't have asked for more!
